Pohick’s new Assistant to the Rector, The Rev. Deacon Celal Kamran, is a graduating Virginia Theological Seminary MDiv student from the Diocese of Virginia. He and his wife, Erin, will join Pohick in mid-May. God willing, Celal will be ordained as a priest in September. Meanwhile, he will assist Rev. Lynn in worship and preach, teach, oversee the Young Adult/Family Ministry, Alpha, Outreach, and Justice ministries.
Rev. Celal was born and raised in Pakistan until the age of eight, when he moved to Virginia with his family. He is a recent graduate of Messiah College where he majored in Biblical and Religious Studies. During college, Celal volunteered as a local firefighter. After graduation, he spent a year in the Episcopal Service Corps, an intentional community of young adults living and serving in Richmond.
Celal is a lifelong Episcopalian and grew up attending The Falls Church Episcopal. His grandfather was an Anglican priest as well. Celal has a passion for social justice. During seminary, he has worked for the Office of Multicultural Ministries and was President of the Seminarians of Color Union. Celal’s favorite part of seminary was eating lunch at the Refectory (cafeteria) on campus and fellowship with peers.
Celal loves spending time with Erin and their rambunctious dogs, Clifford and Rajah. He enjoys cooking, reading South Asian fiction, and exploring different cuisines with Erin. Welcome to Pohick, Rev. Celal and Erin!
